The Sunday Skate
Description
Since 1997, each sunday afternoon, a mass street skate, secure and friendly, open to all, no registration or payment!
Thousands of skaters gather for approximately twenty kilometers of pure happiness through Paris: we meet at 2pm Place de la Bastille, start at 2:30 sharp and return around 5:30 at the same place.
Since February 2020, the hike is open to longboards, skateboards and non-motorized scooters.
The outing is scheduled each and every Sunday, all seasons (barring exceptional situations). In case of bad weather, the skate may be called off or shortened if already underway. A first weather call may be made on Sunday morning, to cancel before noon when the conditions will clearly not be skateable. In any case, a cancellation is communicated as early as possible (website, social networks). If no cancellation announced, assume the skate is on, keep monitoring the channels and gamble it with us.
The route
Each week, a different course is presented to the Paris Police Prefecture. After coordinating with the many other events in the capital, the proposed course is agreed (usually on Thursday or Friday). It is then published on this website, sent by mail to subscribers and announced on social networks (Facebook).
Map and real time tracking
You can see the interactive map of the course here: https://www.rollers-coquillages.org/carte (opens in new tab).
Once the skate is underway, a real-time tracking system displays its current position on the map, which allows you to catch up on the way if you missed the start.
Roadmap 1-pager
On the same page https://www.rollers-coquillages.org/carte (opens in new tab), the “PDF” top left icon allows you to print a roadmap, which you can slip into your pocket for example…

Safety organisation
Staff
The skate is secured by a team of volunteers (you will spot them at their yellow T-shirt), the “Staff”. Seasoned skaters, trained in traffic management, they are at your service to ensure that everything runs smoothly; thank you for respecting them and for listening to the instructions they may give you.
If you want to join the Staff to help with the weekly skate, welcome! No need to be an expert skater, but skating with ease will enable you to focus on the environment and your safety mission. And of course, you will need some stamina to sustain the stop-and-go pace when marshalling. But your most important qualitie will be concentration, a positive attitude, and ability to sustain pressure (there are sometimes conflictual situations with other users of the public space, when we must keep both calm and firm).
Read some Staff members interviews in our “News” area : they share with you their passion for helping the Skate !
Police escort
Depending on their availability and other missions, the Prefecture of Police dispatches an escort to secure the event from the point of view of Public Order and Traffic Management (for instance, 2-3 police mopeds to open the road ahead and a police car behind the group).
First aid
Specialized staff members, duly certified in first aid, skate within the group, ready to intervene immediately in case someone would fall.
The Association also contracts with an Approved First Aid Association (in this case the French Red Cross) to accompany the skating group with one or two ambulance vehicles and first-aid teams. If needed, they will treat minor scrapes and maydecide to transfer the person to a nearby hospital for further examinations or care.
